Draslovka a.s, a provider of sustainability-led technologies, reagents and services for mining and the energy transition, has announced that its Mining Process Solutions (MPS) division has entered a $3 million research collaboration with Curtin University, to commercialise a safer more sustainable mineral extraction technology using Draslovka’s glycine leaching technology (GLT).
The project, supported by the Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer, will focus on advancing GLT, a non-toxic, recyclable and biodegradable amino acid that is commonly used as a food additive, to sustainably recover gold, copper, nickel and cobalt, through a new Innovative Leaching Research Project Team led by Curtin University’s Associate Professor Elsayed Oraby.
Ivor Bryan, Chief Technology Officer of Draslovka, commented: “The potential for glycine leaching to replace traditional, hazardous chemicals is a game-changer for our industry. By combining Draslovka’s technical expertise with Curtin’s innovative research, we are positioned to deliver meaningful advancements in sustainability and safety across mining operations worldwide.”
Rohan McDougall, Resources Technology and Critical Minerals Trailblazer Director said the project would see Curtin’s postdoctoral researchers and PhD candidates work alongside technical experts from Draslovka as part of the project team.
Draslovka MPS provided $2 million and Curtin University’s Trailblazer $1 million to fund the research collaboration.
The funding Draslovka MPS provided supports cutting-edge advancements in exploration, production and downstream processing to advance Australia’s exploration and mining operations.
